Can ChatGPT send a fax?

Yes, with a connector. ChatGPT can’t dial a fax line by itself, but with the Faxwell connector added it prepares the fax and gives you a link to check it and pay.

Can Claude send a fax?

Yes. Add Faxwell as a custom connector with the address https://api.sendfaxwell.com/mcp, then ask Claude to fax a document.

Does the AI pay for the fax?

No. You always open the link, see the fax and pay yourself, or use page credits you already have. Nothing is sent before that.

Do I need a Faxwell account first?

No. The email you use at checkout becomes your account, so the page credits you don’t use are there next time.

Is it safe to send private documents this way?

The AI app sees the document as well as Faxwell. For something sensitive, use sendfaxwell.com/send directly instead.

How to send a fax with AI (Claude, ChatGPT and others)

What it looks like

You: “Fax this referral to Dr. Lee at 503-555-0147,” with the document attached, or ask the assistant to write the letter.
The assistant prepares the fax with Faxwell and gives you a link.
You open the link, see the fax and the page count, and pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card. If you already have Faxwell page credits, use those instead.
It sends right away. Ask the assistant “did my fax go through?” and it checks.

The assistant never pays for you and can’t send anything until you’ve checked the fax and paid. On the web, page credits come in packs of 50 for $3.99 or 200 for $11.99, about 6 to 8¢ a page. Each card payment has a fixed fee, so the smallest web pack is 50 page credits; the Faxwell iPhone app (coming soon) will sell 10 for $0.99. Credits you don’t use stay in your account and last as long as you fax once a year.

Add Faxwell to Claude

In Claude, open Settings, find Connectors, and add a custom connector with this address:

No sign-in is needed. Menu names change from time to time; if you can’t find it, search Claude’s help for “custom connector.”

Add Faxwell to Claude Code or another coding tool

In Claude Code, run:

claude mcp add --transport http faxwell https://api.sendfaxwell.com/mcp

Other tools that support MCP servers over HTTP (Cursor, for example) take the same address in their MCP settings.

ChatGPT and other assistants

Faxwell is a standard MCP server, the common way to plug a service into an AI app. Where your plan allows custom connectors or apps, add one with the address above. Where it doesn’t, the assistant can still point you to sendfaxwell.com/send, which takes about a minute.

What the assistant can send

A PDF, PNG or JPEG you give it, or a link to one.
A letter it writes for you: Faxwell sets the text on letter-size pages.
If your app can’t pass the file along, the link lets you add the document yourself.

Privacy

The document goes through your AI app before it reaches Faxwell, so the AI company has it too, under that app’s privacy terms. Faxwell keeps an unpaid fax for 24 hours, then deletes it. For a sensitive document you’d rather not share with an AI app, use the web page directly.
