How pay as you go works
- Set up the fax: the number and the document.
- Buy a pack of pages at checkout. The fax uses what it needs.
- The rest stay in your account for next time, as long as you fax once a year.
There’s no monthly fee and nothing renews. On the web, page credits come in packs of 50 for $3.99 or 200 for $11.99, about 6 to 8¢ a page. Each card payment has a fixed fee, so the smallest web pack is 50 page credits; the Faxwell iPhone app (coming soon) will sell 10 for $0.99. Credits you don’t use stay in your account and last as long as you fax once a year.
Before you sign up for any fax app, check
- What happens after the free fax. Some apps start a weekly subscription after a trial.
- Whether you pay for faxes that failed. Faxwell charges only for pages that go through.
- Whether your credits expire. Faxwell’s page credits last as long as you fax once a year.
- Whether they add ads to your cover page. Faxwell doesn’t; pay-as-you-go cover pages carry only a small “Sent with Faxwell” credit line.
When a subscription does make sense
If you need to receive faxes, you need a fax number, and a number costs money every month. Faxwell will offer a week-long number for $2.99 once, or $4.99 a month with 100 pages, in the iPhone app (coming soon). See what a fax number is.
