How to send a fax from email

Updated November 6, 2026

Email the document to the fax number followed by @sendfaxwell.com. For the fax number (503) 555-0147, that’s 5035550147@sendfaxwell.com. Attach a PDF or photos, or type the fax in the email. It costs 10¢ a page from your page credits. The first time you send from a new address, we email back a link to check the fax and pay or sign in.

1. Address the email to the fax number

In the To field, type the 10 digits of the fax number, then @sendfaxwell.com:

5035550147@sendfaxwell.com

Faxwell sends to fax numbers in the US and Canada. Check the number with the recipient: a wrong number is the most common reason a fax doesn’t go through.

2. Attach the document

3. Send it from your email app

Gmail

  1. Click Compose (in the app, tap the pencil).
  2. Type the fax address in To.
  3. Click the paperclip to attach the PDF or photos, then Send.

Outlook

  1. Choose New mail (in the app, tap the pencil).
  2. Type the fax address in To.
  3. Choose Attach (the paperclip) and pick the file, then Send.

iPhone Mail

  1. Tap the new message button and type the fax address in To.
  2. Tap in the message, then use the buttons above the keyboard to add a photo, scan a document or attach a file.
  3. Tap Send.

You can also start from the document: in Files or Photos, tap Share, choose Mail, and type the fax address.

What happens next

If the line is busy or nobody answers, Faxwell tries again for about 3 hours. If it still can’t get through, we email you why, and you aren’t charged.

What it costs

10¢ a page from your page credits, the same as on the website. There’s no extra fee for email and no subscription. On the web, page credits come in packs of 50 for $4.99 or 200 for $19.99, and the ones you don’t use stay in your account as long as you fax once a year. Private faxes (20¢ a page) aren’t available by email.

Why we check where the email came from

Anyone can type any address into the From line of an email. So we only spend your page credits when your email provider proves the email came from your address, using the checks Gmail, Outlook, iCloud and most providers add to every email (SPF, DKIM and DMARC). If we can’t confirm it, you get the link instead. A forged email can’t spend your page credits; at worst you get a link you can ignore.

Questions

What can I attach to an email fax?

PDFs, and photos as PNG or JPEG, up to 200 pages in all. Several attachments go out as one fax, in the order they’re attached. Other files, like Word documents, aren’t faxed: save them as a PDF first. With no attachment, the text of your email is the fax, without your signature or the earlier messages quoted below it. The subject line isn’t faxed.

How much does it cost to fax from email?

10¢ a page from your page credits, the same as faxing from the website. There’s no fee for using email and no subscription. On the web, page credits come in packs of 50 for $4.99 or 200 for $19.99, and the ones you don’t use stay in your account. You’re only charged for faxes that go through.

What if I send from a different email address?

We email back a link instead of sending straight away. Open it, check the fax, then pay, or sign in with the email on your Faxwell account to use your page credits. Once you’re signed in there, you can choose “Let this address send faxes”, and from then on that address sends straight away too. Nothing is sent or charged until you finish, and the link works for 24 hours.

Is faxing by email private?

Once your email reaches us, the fax is encrypted on its way to our fax carrier and while we store it, like every Faxwell fax. We don’t keep the email itself, only the PDF we made from it, for 30 days after delivery so you can open it again (or not at all with “Don’t keep my faxes” on). Email between your provider and us is usually, but not always, encrypted, and the last step to the recipient’s fax machine runs over the phone network, as with every fax. Private faxes (20¢ a page) aren’t available by email.

How long does an email fax take?

It starts dialing within a minute of your email arriving, and a few pages usually go through in a minute or two. If the line is busy or doesn’t answer, Faxwell tries again for about 3 hours. We email you when it’s delivered, or if it can’t go through.
